Welcome to River City Art, home to Artist Kate McAllister who has been practicing and creating since 1984
opening the studio doors in 2010, teaching countless children and adults from the Valley and beyond
I will start with the first part. About RCA's Mission... Since the beginning of this little adventure it has been my main goal to encourage the imagination. Independent study based studio time has been the key to that encouragement. Brain storming, free drawing and practice are the cornerstones to the creative process. Since 2010, the after school children's studio sessions and the adult intro to art classes have been giving kids of all ages the freedom of expression through fine art. I have had the honor of teaching some incredibly gifted young artists who have gone on to make it their careers. By giving students access to the tools and mediums of their choosing and offering them the chance to explore those mediums and styles, they have the opportunity to explore endless artistic expressions and creations. Student artists choose their path. The ideas are their own from a painting on canvas, drawing patterns that lead to a mandala, or color patterns that become the basis for a beaded patterned bracelet. I have a studio full of available supplies and tools. If we can dream it we can certainly try to make it. Who knows where the creativity will take us!
As for after school classes, I offer a rolling admission. No registration sites, just me and a message. If you're ready tomorrow I'd say join in. Class times offered are not set in stone, neither are the age groups, which I try not to have... Side note, when I was 10, my first studio art class was in a woman's garage, and I was with all adults, each at our own drafting table. We painted old greeting cards for practice... I also offer availability for home schooled classes, private lessons and workshops.
We are all here for our love of creativity, to view the children's art portfolio please visit the River City Art Facebook photo page

Now, here's the "Did you know?" part of the website (lol) where I talk about myself and what I've done. Like I said, I've been on this art adventure since I can remember, but formally, since I was 10. As a teen I earned multiple Independent Study projects throughout my prep school career. Allowing me time in multiple studios learning how to fabricate my own stretchers for canvas painting, learning wood turning, ceramics, drawing, but mainly concentrating on large scale paintings earning multiple awards. To this day I continue learning new ways to create, but there are very few mediums I wont use. My art has made its way on to the walls of friends around the world, also working with many local businesses creating custom work. I have been commissioned to paint photo realistic paintings of St Andrews and other golf courses from Florida to Arizona, beach scenes from the Cape, Miami and Block Island to a pondering Astronaut. Some favorites have been paintings of vintage cars, and a few tress here and there. Another piece done for local friends was creating a four foot wood carving of The Three Hares, an ancient circular motif. In 2017 my watercolor work was used for Season Passes at Bromley Mountain in Vt, that led me to earn 2 Ct Art Director's Club Awards, one Silver Award and one Excellence Award. These and so much more can all be seen on my KMcA Fine Art Facebook page as well as my KMcA.FineArt Instagram page. There's a lot. Different styles, mediums, different decades.
Along with all of this, over the years I have had many gallery shows and given multiple Artists talks. Most recently teaming up with The Canton Arts Council at the Canton Library, but also at NWCC, a few select galleries that have come and gone from the village, as well as being a member of the Canton Artists Guild. I have also given workshops for kids groups and seniors and held a few sip and paints at the local brewery, and occasionally I like to throw Collinsville Street Fairs, inviting Street Muralists, other Artists and local Musicians to come have fun for a day...
And I still have time to keep my foot in the kitchen, cooking on the weekends at The Grindstone Tavern... Stop in some time, you'll see my art there too.
Again, please visit my Facebook pages, River City Art for all things related to the studio classes and kids art and KMcA Fine Art to view all of the artwork I have created over the years. The portfolio of my entire body of work as well as a little River City mixed in is on Instagram at KMcA.FineArt
River City Art is located on Main St in the heart of the village
